Boating Points of Interest:

Inland:

The Broads is one of the nine national parks in the UK. The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads is Britain’s largest protected wetland and third largest inland waterway, with the status of a national park. It’s also home to some of the rarest plants and animals in the UK.

Boating is at the heart of the history and culture of the Broads. The rivers and broads are excellent for sailing and there are many yacht clubs in the area. There is also a large hire boat industry which caters for holiday makers. Day boats are also available, some of which are electrically powered and therefore less damaging to the fragile Broads environment.

The Broads is a fascinating area with a rich history, reflected in the many wonderful places to visit and the unique wildlife. There are restored windmills, medieval churchs, beautiful gardens and great places for family visits.

Coast:

Lowestoft was originally built on top of the cliffs overlooking the North Sea. The ancient pathways running down to the sea are known as the ‘Scores’. These were used as ways of access from the high ground to the beach and were also used as carriageways by fish merchants during the height of the booming fishing industry.

Lowestfoft is at the heart of the coast known as ‘The Sunshine Coast’. In 2006, five of The Sunrise Coast’s beaches won awards acknowledging their achievement of the highest levels of cleanliness and safety possible. Lowestoft North of Claremont Pier, Lowestoft South of Claremont Pier and Southwold Pier Resort beaches were each awarded an ENCAMS Blue Flag Award and ENCAMs Seaside (Resort) Award. Kessingland and Southwold Denes Rural beaches were awarded an ENCAMS Seaside (Rural) Award.

The Sunrise Coast is full of historic towns and villages along the coast line which can all be seen from the sea. Many of them have lost parts to the sea, including the famous underwater village of Dunwich. The coastline is full of beautiful cliffs, heaths and miles of unspoilt dunes without a sign of human inhabitance.

Great Days Out:

Oulton Broad

Nicolas Everitt Park lies at the southern entrance of the Norfolk Boards and is just a short stroll away from Lowestoft Haven Marina. It houses a wide range of amenitites, leisure facilities and events, including the Lowestoft Museum situated in Broad House. The museum presents 1000 years of local and domestic history, Lowestoft Porcelain, fossils, flints and medieval artefacts.

For the sports lover amongst you, Oulton Broad offers a variety of activities including sailing, fishing, windsurfing, rowing and tennis.

A day on the beach

Renowned for the quality and cleanliness of its beaches, Lowestoft hosts a number of exciting events through the summer, including the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival and the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat series. Why not take advantage of the beaches... considered some of the very best in Northern Europe.

Pleasurewood Hills American Theme Park

For a fun day out for all the family, why not try Lowestoft’s very own theme park, Pleasurewood Hills. With more than 25 rides and attractions, including an extreme rollercoaster standing 120 feet tall, touching speeds of almost 50 mph and pulling over 5-Gs. Pleasurewood Hills is well worth a visit.
