This year it isn’t just any Southampton Boat Festival; this is the 50th anniversary of the British boating occasion. There will be 600 global marine brands at the festival giving you the ultimate experience and a full range of choice. You’ll witness incredible technology in boats, fun in the sun, great food and lots of free experiences too! Our Burton Waters Boat Sales team will also be at various stands at the event so keep an eye on our pages as we get closer and closer to the event for more information.
The festival will be held this year from the 14th September until the 23rd September. The Southampton Boating Festival and Show is held at Mayflower Park in Southampton, UK. Not only will boats be on show but also other things like water sport equipment so you don’t want to miss out. They’re estimating 110 000 guests this year so be ready for a crowd and get your tickets early!
The festival will offer activities called “Have a go” in which you get to experience certain things. These activities operate on a first come, first serve basis so you will not be able to book for these. Due to the large crowds that are predicted to descend upon this year’s festival, we recommend getting there early to make sure you can experience everything to the fullest! Also be aware that all water activities will also be weather dependent.
So, what are some of the things to look forward to at the festival? One of the main attractions is the chance to get onboard the Ocean Race Yacht to experience an offshore race yacht! You’ll be part of a 12 person team and get hands-on experience to learn the ropes of sailing with a professional crew. Don’t worry if you’re not a pro, this experience is great for everyone! This experience includes 90 minutes and ticket prices range from £60* Monday – Thursday and £65* on Friday – Sunday and remember to check out the sailing times.
Experience a bit of history onboard the Kaskelot which is one of the largest wooden ships still in commission at 46.6m. This boat was originally built in Denmark back in 1948 and was then commissioned by the Royal Greenland Trading Company. You’ll get the chance to explore this boat every day of the festival and this is a free experience too! If you want to get out on the water but don’t want to do the sailing yourself, there is a 20 minute free cruise available to all visitors at the show. The boat has sundecks, bars and the chance for a beautiful cruise on the ocean. The boat will depart from the marina twice every hour for a mini cruise.
Another amazing aspect about this year’s show is that the British Marine is taking the necessary steps to reduce its impact on the environment from this year’s event. They will be working hand in hand with the Marine Conservation Society as they launch a three-year pledge to reduce singe use plastics, using sustainable fish for food and recycling waste where they can. They also encourage visitors of this year’s festival to be aware of this and help play their part in keeping the oceans clean.
We’ll make sure to keep you up to date on all relevant information about this exciting festival and where you can find our team on the day! Make sure to book your tickets at: https://nbs-southampton.yourticketbooking.com/events/SouthamptonBoatShow
